European Summer Camps

Many European IB schools are located in pleasant exotic locations – so it is fairly natural to find them offering summer schools for 2, 3 or 4 week durations – usually from ages 7 through to 16.

It is common to find core lessons in either English or the local native language. Then there will be a host of activities which might include inter alia swimming, sailing, golf, tennis, horse riding, river rafting or mountain climbing. On top of this there will be lots of day trips to tourist attractions. Switzerland and Spain offer some of the most varied programmes. So just tell us what you are looking for and we will make some suggestions.

The summer camps in Europe mostly concentrate on language courses plus fun activities. In the UK there are about 3 summer programmes which offer fairly intensive lessons in IB subjects as a forerunner to the pupil joining a boarding school to start the IBDP after the summer programme. We have not come across similar courses in Continental Europe, apart from in Austria where there are 2 week IB revision courses for 16 or 17 year olds and in Portugal where they do an IBDP preparation course.

IB Summer Schools

Summer courses for the IB are offered by a very small number of organisations, who take over the premises of Universities or Boarding Schools and then employ experienced IB teachers, who teach in IB schools in normal term time.

We have arrangements with two of these IB summer school operators, one using Oxford University premises and the other a large private boarding school in Hampshire.

These courses are more intensive academic courses than the average UK summer school which tends to be built around English Language tuition plus fun / activities & trips.Typically they last for 2, 3, 4 or 8 weeks and provide:

- A complete introduction to the IB
- Focussed classroom teaching in key subjects + options from the IB DP roster
- Exploration of key IBDP elements such as Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and the CAS Programme.
- A balanced mix of learning and fun

Fees vary by options chosen but tend to be up to £1400 per week.

Courses fill up quickly and you should give us as much advance notice as possible by completing the enquiry form or phoning us on +44 (0) 1622 813870.
